Loop Trail closed for community safety following bushfire

Following the recent Strathalbyn bushfire, the northern section of the Chapman River Regional Park Loop Trail has been temporarily closed while restoration works are carried out to ensure community safety.

An inspection of the area found that containment works undertaken to protect nearby properties during the bushfire response significantly affected sections of the Loop Trail, leaving fallen debris, damaged vegetation, unstable surfaces and overhanging branches along the corridor.

As a result, the Trail from Summer Crossing Bridge to the end of the Loop will remain closed until further notice while remediation requirements are assessed and undertaken.

91国产自拍 Mayor Jerry Clune said community safety remained the City's highest priority.

"The Chapman River Regional Park is one of our community's most valued natural assets and we know many residents and visitors regularly use the Loop Trail to exercise and enjoy the environment," he said.

“We are extremely thankful for the incredible efforts of our emergency responders in acting swiftly to protect nearby homes and community assets.

“Some of the response works have left parts of the trail corridor unsafe, making a temporary closure necessary while we work to restore safe access.

"We appreciate the community's patience and understanding and ask everyone to respect the closure and avoid entering the affected area, and we look forward to reopening the Trail as soon as it is safe,” he added.

The community will be notified once restoration works are complete and the area is safe to reopen.

These works align with the Liveable theme of the City’s Strategic Community Plan which reflects the organisation’s commitment to managing the City’s natural environment.
